Thermal board The range of thermal boardsfrom manufacturers such as British gypsum, Knauf and Lafarge are designed to provide additional performance in areas like fire
performance, acoustic performance , thermal performance, additional impact performance, moisture performance and a number of wide ranging demands that are put upon a wall, partition or lining system.
The advantages of laminated products (plasterboard which is bonded to an additional thermal product such as solid insulation, polystyrene or other insulate) are quite beneficial. 1.when a board is applied to a wall liner in no additional insulation is required. So you do not have to to pour any insulation to increase the performance of the wall. 2.the thermal products are relatively light in weight and therefore require no additional support or substructure in most instances the panel’s will be stuck to the wall or mechanically fixed. 3.if you have a clear cavity when the petition has been installed this can be easily maintained as you will not have role or slab insulation stuffed into the void.
4.cold bridging can be a problem when petitions are built continuously over framing members or joists this does not occur when using a thermal will. 5.when constructing internal petition walls just one fixing can occur in the construction is therefore completed quicker and cheaper. 6.thermal products have a rapid response to a to intermittent heating which therefore creates more comfortable conditions in the environment and again saves time and money in heating environment up for a long time to reach the optimum temperature.
7. condensation can be a problem in certain environments this is reduced when using a thermal board product. 8.building regulations can be very tight depending on what you’re trying to reach a thermal board product will meet regulations on masonry, timber frame walls, refurbishment and even new build product. 9.when constructing a property of three stories or more or loft conversions a thermal board product will provide additional insulation to rooflining. 10.it’s an all in one product so if you’re trying to achieve a number of things such as vapour fire etc then a thermal board can achieve is for you in one product. Manufacturers British gypsum products 1. Gyproc Thermaline Basic this is a piece of plasterboard which has been bonded with expanded polystyrene which is both CFC and HCFC free (this means ozone depletion potential).
Should you require a vapour barrier this can also be introduced to reduce condensation. 2.Gyproc Thermaline Plus this is a piece of wallboard which has been attached to extruded polystyrene which is both CFC and HCFC free (ozone depletion potential). The structure of the phone ensures an internal vapour barrier. 3. Gyproc Thermaline Super this is a piece of plasterboard which is attached to a high thermal performing phenolic foam insulant. This particular product as good fire performance with a class zero rating on both faces it also has minimal toxicity and smoke obscuration in single figures. A vapour barrier is included as standard to reduce the risk of condensation 4. Gyproc Thermal Platinum this product is a layer of plasterboard attached to a higher performing expanded polystyrene insulant . Again this product has an optional a vapour barrier and various other options.
